چکیده

A transformer is a vital component in any power system network and its catastrophic failure may cause disturbance in the proper operation of electrical power system network. Therefore, it requires continuous monitoring and diagnostics of its operation. This paper presents the several on-line and off-line techniques related with internal winding fault detection in transformers. This paper also reviews and compares the different diagnostics methods based on their advantages and limitations. This highlights a further scope in decision-making for utility engineers for monitoring and diagnostic of the internal winding faults.

Power Auto-transformer Mechanical Faults Diagnosis ‎Using Finite Element based FRA

Frequency response analysis (FRA) is a sensitive ‎method established for testing the mechanical integrity of ‎transformers. However, interpretation of FRA signature still ‎needs expert opinions and there is no FRA interpretation code ‎generally accepted. Various mechanical faults with different ‎extents on power transformers are required to aid FRA ‎interpretation. To address this challenge, in...

Characterization of Power Transformer Electromagnetic Forces Affected by Winding Faults

Electromagnetic forces in power transformer windings are produced by interaction between the leakage fluxes and current passing them. Since the leakage flux distribution along the windings height is in two axial and radial directions, so the electromagnetic forces have two components, radial and axial. There is a risk that a large electromagnetic force due to the short circuit or inrush current...

Comparison of Impulse Wave and Sweep Frequency Response Analysis Methods for Diagnosis of Transformer Winding Faults

Monitoring of winding faults is the most important item used to determine the maintenance status of a transformer. Commonly used methods for winding-fault diagnosis require the transformer to exit operation before testing and an external exciting signal, whether the transformer is malfunctioning or not. However, if an overvoltage signal can be regarded as a broadband excitation source for fault...

Transformer Models for Detection of Incipient Internal Winding Faults

A method of modeling internal turn-to-earth and turn-toturn faults in distribution transformer is discussed in this paper. The models are entirely compatible with the Alternative Transients Program(ATP). The simulation of the faults is based on known leakage factors between the various coils of the transformer. These leakage factors are evaluated by using a simple method implemented in this pap...

Neural Network Modeling of Distribution Transformer with Internal Winding Faults using Double Fourier Series

An efficient transformer model is required to characterize the transformer internal faults for its condition assessment, which is experimentally very costly. This paper discusses the application of Neural Network (NN) techniques in the modeling of a distribution transformer with internal short-circuit winding faults. A transformer model can be viewed as a functional approximator constructing an...
